Wow! This was a big one! In March 2009, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of RCA Victor’s vinyl 45 single, we designed and curated an exhibit chronicling the history of recorded vocal groups on different media. In the display we started with the wax cylinders of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s and went through the birth of the 45 in March 1949. We displayed a wax cylinder and Edison disc by the Fisk University Jubilee Quartette, and old windup record player, 78’s, radio transcriptions, 10-inch vinyl albums and a lot more. We had advertisements for RCA Victors’ first ever series of 45’s – each genre on a different color vinyl. We even had a record from each genre on display. Click on each photos to enlarge and take a look for yourself! Oh, and we even gave a Classic Urban Harmony multimedia presentation talking about the exhibit.
