The Asbury Park Music Foundation is pleased to host this special benefit show on March 24 at the VFW, 701 Lake Avenue, Asbury Park. Join them as over 20 jazz and blues musicians play tribute to Gladstone Trott and his 45-year musical career. On Friday March 24, Asbury Park will be celebrating the musical career of Gladstone Trott in a fundraising event to help his family cover medical expenses. Raised in Asbury Park, Gladstone has been playing music since he was six years old. His life of music includes playing piano, clarinet, flute, sax and trumpet as well as singing and conducting. Gladstone has been hospitalized since December.
Gladstone’s musical contributions have been many. He became the organist at St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Asbury Park at the age of thirteen and continued in that role for 45 years. Gladstone has played and recorded for numerous jazz bands over the years, played regularly at the Breakers Hotel in Spring Lake and most recently played with the Lakewood Jazz Orchestra.
This tribute show features over 20 jazz and blues musicians who know and respect the contributions of Mr. Trott. The response to participate in the show has been incredible and has required event director Dorian Parreott to split the musicians into three separate sessions with rotating members. “Musicians and friends are traveling in from all over the country to be part of this special event,” said Parreott.
Musicians include Gladstone’s former band mates, teachers, students and friends. Clifford Johnson, age 91, played with Gladstone over the years in church. Gladstone’s long-time drummer, Bobby Boyd and the well-respected sax player Tommy LaBella are scheduled to participate. Another expected musician, Sandy Sasso, had toured with Gladstone across the US and internationally. The event will feature one of his former music teachers, Karl Crudup and a former student, Desi Norman. Many other musicians will also celebrate their appreciate of Gladstone as well.
The show originally scheduled for the new Asbury Park Music Foundation space on Lake Avenue, is being moved to the VFW at 701 Lake Avenue to accommodate a larger audience. The show starts at 8:00pm with doors opening at 7:00pm. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Trott family.. Donations can also be made at GoFundMe.com.
