Doo Wop Explosion is BACK in 2018! Tickets NOW ON SALE
Classic Urban Harmony is thrilled to announce that our “all acappella” Doo Wop Explosion (#3) is back in 2018!. On Saturday, April 21, 2018, we will present “Doo Wop Explosion III” at Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre in West Long Branch, NJ. If you attended our first two Explosions, you know they rated among the very top all-acappella doo wop concerts of the past 20 years. This one looks to be just as memorable, if not more so. Featuring…
Gaynel Hodge. The 81-year-old music legend now living in Amsterdam is the last original founding member of the Platters, lead of the Hollywood Flames and Turks and co-writer of “Earth Angel”. Gaynel will be singing his songs by the Hollywood Flames, Turks, Platters and of course, “Earth Angel,” all acappella, backed by Quiet Storm.
Joel Katz & the Dynamics. For more than forty years, Joel Katz has been singing doo wop, leading groups like the Autumns, Joel & the Conchords, the Connotations, the Wizards, the Platinums, Twilight, Joel & the Dymensions and Joel & the Dynamics. He’s also sung with the Cliftonaires, the Emotions, the Five Disks, Brooklyn Bridge, the Impalas, Kid Kyle’s Kool Katz and many others. Now completely recovered from a serious health crisis, this local doo wop legend is back with his all-star group, making an all acappella appearance.
Quiet Storm. The Philadelphia based vocal group is considered one of the strongest acappella groups around. In addition to backing Gaynel Hodge, Quiet Storm will be singing their own set of superb doo wop and soul harmony.
Frankie & the Fashions. Frankie Lafaro & the Fashions have long been one of Philadelphia’s favorite doo wop vocal groups. Frankie’s self-penned “What Do I Have To Do” is a Philly doo wop classic. Their acappella harmony is exquisite.
Re-MemberThen. This exceptional central Jersey quintet has been thrilling local doo wop fans for seven years now. The group’s name comes from the signature song of the Earls’ Larry Chance, whom they backed on Doo Wop Explosion I.
Nostalgia 5. From South Philly comes this seasoned vocal quintet with show stopping harmonies of the Ravens, Flamingos and Velours. They sing complex arrangements of pure street corner acapella.
5/3 Woodland. One of the most entertaining groups out there, 5/3 Woodland mixes flawless harmony with a great sense of humor. They take their name from the Southwest Philly street corner they started singing on – 53rd Street and Woodland Avenue.
Special Added Guest Singer…
Deborah Charleston. Exquisite blues and jazz singer, Deborah Charleston, has graciously agreed to render a few R&B classics, backed, of course, by Quiet Storm.
Ticket prices are the same as last year, $25, $40 and $55. The $55 seats are the Gold Seats. As with earlier Doo Wop Explosions, there will be a “Meet & Greet” reception and photo op for holders of Gold Seat tickets. Meeting Gaynel Hodge is alone worth the price of a Gold Seat!
As always, this line up subject to change.
