Interesting presentation/program in Birmingham AL on Thursday March 9, 2017, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.  If you’re anywhere near Birmingham, this looks like a great event.  “Radio Heroes” presents Birmingham’s extraordinary black radio history, the Pillars Quartet and the Jefferson County Sound, plus the contributions of radio announcer and activist Paul “Tall Paul” White.  It takes place at the Historic Carver Theatre, 1631 4th Avenue North, Downtown Birmingham, AL.  The event is free.

Black radio played an important role in the Birmingham civil rights movement and its history is being preserved by the Birmingham Black Radio Museum (BBRM) project.  To read about this project click BBRM Project.  Project director is Bob Friedman who started the program in 1992.  NY/NJ R&B harmony fans remember Bob as a member of the Sparrows Quartette.  Bob has since been singing with the Pillars, an outstanding Birmingham gospel quartet.
