It’s always a treat for Charlie and I
to attend great musical performances. One Sunday night this June, we went
to see Nicky Addeo sing at
the Wonderbar (Ocean and 5th Avenue) in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Asbury Park
looks more vital than the last time we were there in 2007. The boardwalk, the
restaurants and the music make this beach town a place to visit on the Jersey
shore. Of course, Asbury Park has quite a musical history, and we're not
just talking about Bruce Springsteen! Asbury Park and surrounding area gave us some great
vocal groups like the Vibranaires, the Valtairs, the Broadways, the Uniques,
the Darchaes, Barbaros & the Historians and the Nite Owls. Nicky Addeo
sang lead with the last several of these groups.
On this night, we enjoyed
dancing and listening to Nicky. His repertoire covered everything from Doo Wop to early 70’s soul. We were pleased to hear “Gloria”, “Blue Star”,
“My Hero”, “Please Let Me Love You”, “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind”, and
“Stardust”. We especially enjoyed the company of our friend Bobby Thomas from
the Vibranaires and Orioles. We were happy to meet Ken Abruzzi and his wife
Debra, who both are DJ’s on The RockitRadio Internet station.
