Just when
we thought the Doo Wop music was slowly fading into the background, a new
venue has been established. Central New Jersey is the location for a
Doowop Group Harmony Club that meets about every third Sunday. Pat
and Stu Pushkin provide a clubhouse and snacks for the group. Singers get
together and break into groups in different corners of the room and some
even sing in the bathroom. The meeting we attended was on a Sunday from 11-4
PM. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. In attendance were many
well known tri-state singers and historians. In the future, the possibility
of dances at this facility was mentioned.
Some of the
songs I heard on Sunday, January 18, 2009, were “Till Then”, “I’ll Be Home”,
“I’m Just a Traveling Stranger”, “My Own True Love”, “Mio Amore”, “Little
Girl of Mine” and “Most of All” to name a few. If you would like to attend
the next Doowop Group Harmony Club, please email Pat and Stu Pushkin at
