2015/16

Opening June 18, 2015 [Freehold, NJ]

Exhibit: "Spirituals to Soul: African American Musical Heritage in Monmouth County (1880 - 1980)" to open at Monmouth County Historical Association Museum in Freehold, NJ.

Our highly acclaimed exhibit of black music of Asbury Park expands again to become a century of black music in Monmouth County, NJ (1880 - 1980) and opens in the Monmouth County Historical Association Museum, 70 Court Street, Freehold, NJ.  If you think the last exhibit was great, wait until you see this one!  In addition to all the other items, it now also covers Jubilee style spirituals groups, like the Fisk Jubilee Singers and Harrod's Jubilee Singers visiting Monmouth County in the late 1880's.  We've added some new photos and memorabilia like Bobby Thomas' white uniform and some new records.  It's complete with listening stations so you can hear the music as well as view the photos and memorabilia.  Check back soon for details on the opening reception, June 18.
