Doo Wop Explosion II is now one for the history books. March 4, 2017, at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ was an incredible night. Having attended most of the big all acappella doo wop concerts on the East Coast over the past 40 years, we can honestly say this one ranks pretty high on the list. Seven great doo wop acappella groups playing a major venue like the Pollak Theatre? Almost unheard of. And yet we’ve pulled off two highly successful Doo Wop Explosions in two years.
In this and the next two post, we’ll be reviewing this year’s concert – telling you all that happened from the sound checks to the grand finale. Here we’ve posted 90 photos from our arrival at Monmouth University’s 700 seat Pollak Theatre to the sound checks to the grand “meet & greet” reception for “golden seat” ticketholders. In our next post we’ll have photos from the concert itself, followed by select videos.
In all, Doo Wop Explosion II: Another Night of Acappella Harmony” featured seven R&B and Doo Wop vocal groups all singing acappella. In order of appearance… The Copians, Re-MemberThen, A Perfect Blend, the Cameos, Quiet Storm, Vito & the Salutations and Pookie Hudson’s Spaniels. While we don’t yet have a final count, we know there were more than 400 people in the audience.
Thanks to all who attended our Doo Wop Explosions I and II.. Perhaps with your support we can come back with Doo Wop Explosion III.
As we were tied up producing and emceeing the concert, our photo taking was limited. We’ve not yet received the photos from the professional photographer. We’ll post them later. We thank those who have shared photos they took and will credit them under each photo by their initials…All uncredited photos are ours.
