Just posted – the Story of Stan Krause & Catamount Records, with complete discography and photos.

Stan Krause, famous Jersey City record store owner, record producer, label owner and mentor to many R&B acappella groups, including the Persuasions, 14 Karat Soul, Vintage, the Royal Counts, Mixed Company and many others, passed away Friday May 20, 2016, at the age of 74.  I (Charlie) first met Stan in the late 1970’s at the United in Group Harmony Association (UGHA), which Stan helped start along with Ronnie I and others.  Stan gave early success to the Persuasions when he recorded their “Stardust” LP on his Catamount Record label.  Catamount was primarily an acappella label that also launched the careers of 14 Karat Soul, the Royal Counts, Vintage, the Bonaires, Joann & the Heartaches, the Savoys, Zircons, Destinaires, Cordials and many others.  Stan ran the label out of his Stan’s Square Record Store in Jersey City that just celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015.  We recently reconnected with Stan Krause about a year ago as we had his groups, Original Mixed Company and the True Devines perform at Roxy & Dukes Roadhouse in Dunellen, NJ..  It’s hard to imagine what our acappella music would have been without Stan.  This is a huge loss to our music field and to us, the loss of a friend.  Our sincere condolences to Stan’s wife, Ewa, his family and friends.  For more details on Stan’s career and info about his funeral arrangements, visit the Stan;s Square Records FaceBook Page.
