An Afternoon at the
29th Annual (2011) Lead East
September 3, 2011, Parsippany,
NJ
On Saturday afternoon, September 3, 2011, we dropped by the
29th Annual (2011) Lead East at the Parsippani (NJ) Hilton. Billed as
the world's biggest 1950's party, Lead East has more classic cars, vocal
groups and fifties music than you can imagine. The celebration had begun
on Wednesday evening and ran through Sunday, featuring three major oldies
concerts, two acappella group concerts and numerous activities besides 1800
vintage cars from 22 states. We wish we could have caught some of our
favorite groups in concert like the Harptones, Dubs, Passions, Earls, Drifters
and others but time is limited and we could only stay for an afternoon.
Still, we got to hear a lot of hear a lot of great vocal harmony and had a
great time. Here are a few random photos.

We were happy to see our friend Bob Belniak from the New
England Doo-Wop Society and Echoes of the Past magazine, there.

Inside, we caught the Saturday afternoon acappella concert,
featuring the Norristones, Desire, Magic Touch, Memories of You, the Tribunes
and Classic Sounds. We thought all six groups were outstanding.
The concert was MC's by our friend Cool Bobby B from Sirius/XM Radio's "Doo
Wop Stop".

Group harmony was everywhere. Here our

The Fifties Karaoke and Open Mike, held in the hotel lobby
atrium always draws a big crowd. In addition to karaoke, vocal groups
are encouraged to perform with or without music tracks.
